Miscalcualted shipping by eBay
Summary: weis-dely expressed frustration over a selling experience where the shipping cost turned out to be much higher than what the buyer paid, leaving them with only $4.45 from their $59 sale of floor mats. They questioned why they ended up with such a small amount due to the unexpected additional shipping charge and felt they would have been better off discarding the product.
I recently sold a set of floor mats for $59. I input the size and weight of the box when listed for sale. The buyer paid the shipping for a total of $105. I printing the shipping label from ebay and shipped the product. The final payment I received was only $4.45 from my $59 sale. This was apparently due to an additional shipping cost that I was charged. The cost of shipping was more then double what was paid by the buyer! Looking back I would have been better off putting the product I sold in the dumpster. The question I have is why did I get ripped off?

Mentor3 weeks agoYou see the shipping cost well before you purchase the label, which would tell you if something was wrong and let you fix it. Since this wasn't a later charge back by the carrier then the mistake was made before you purchased the label.
Is the was a USPS shipment using calculated shipping the amount the buyer paid should be the same you pay, if in fact you entered the correct weight and dimensions in the listing and when creating the shipping label. However, if you didn't check the weight and dimensions or worse the type of service used (ground, priority, etc.) when creating the label this could cause a large difference.
Note, if there was a correctable mistake and the post office catches it, they will send you a refund. Without further details we can comment further.
