method of payment

Question

I want to bid on an item. When asked for method of payment, I selected credit/debit card and entered the requested information. The debit card is not accepted. I do not understand why. The card is a purchased Visa card and it does say at upper left hand corner "Gift Card" and "Debit/Visa" at lower right corner. I called the card issuer and they say it has the purchased value available. Why is eBay not accepting the card as payment?

Also, why are not eBay gift cards not listed as a method of payment?

If you have to provide a payment method prior to bidding or using the offer feature then the Seller has Auto-pay turned on. eBay has stopped letting gift cards and debit cards be used with the Auto-pay feature. You can message the Seller and ask them to turn it off which means you would just bid and pay when the auction ends if you win opposed to providing a payment method up front.

Auto-pay is a good feature but not all Sellers know it exists because eBay does not tell them when it is added to their accounts AND the default setting is set to ON.
