MEDIA MAIL
Sorry if this sounds like "virtue shaming" but am I the only one who respects the USPS guidelines for using Media Mail? Clearly states no printed matter which contains outside advertising may be sent Media Mail. But I see comic books, magazines, etc, all showing Economy Shipping. The photos of the items even highlight the advertising! I have questioned every postmaster I've come in contact with, trying to explain that the ads in a 1930s magazine are vintage. But if the product (General Mills, Kellogg's, Listerine, etc) is still available in any form, it's considered current advertising and banned.
I guess until it backfires on you, like it did me, there's no reason to stop cheating! I had enclosed a small brochure with a book and the package was opened, by lottery. When I gave it to the clerk to get the package scanned, they got a message on their computer to check the contents. Apparently it's an embedded alert every few Media Mail packages.
When the USPS finds an item in Media Mail which goes against their guidelines, it's returned to the sender for repacking. The original postage is forfeited. Or it's sent on to the addressee with postage due; which makes for an unhappy buyer.

·2 years agoI think they are checking more Media Mail packages and catching more cheaters that use it when the item doesn't qualify.
It's best to know what can and can't be shipped Media Mail, so you don't have to worry about it.
It doesn't matter how old the advertising is, it can't be shipped Media Mail.
