I have been shipping books lately and I am wondering why even when I put the correct weight into the calculator that my cost is higher by at .50 than the rate that I and the buyer are given. Anyone have thoughts as to why this is happening?

Mentor1 year agoIt appears that you are listing with Flat Rate shipping instead of Calculated shipping. Media Mail is not a flat rate service but needs the weight and dimensions of the package along with the delivery location. Double check your listings to make sure you have chosen Calculated shipping.

·1 year ago@jacbarcollectibles , a slight correction or clarification. Media Mail shipping does require accurate weight, and dimensions within the allowable limits (though it is not charged by dimensional weight like other services), but the destination does not matter within the US. It is the same rate to ship across the country as it is next door. The general advice to make sure the weight and dimensions are entered correctly and that Calculated Shipping is selected is spot on, though.
@jabtodd , I would also check your Shipping Preferences and see if you are passing along a custom discount to your buyer, possibly. There is no discount for Media Mail rates by purchasing the labels on eBay, but if your settings are passing a custom discount to the customer it may still be discounting the rates below what you will actually pay. The fact that the difference in cost seems consistent makes me think that may be an issue.
