Massively Incorrect Postage?
As an inexperienced seller, I have no idea what I should do here.
I've listed and sold several items and each time I just let eBay walk me through the shipping and I buy the label from them. Never had a problem.
For this particular item, I entered in a weight of 6 lb., 14 oz. and a size of 22 x 16 x 4 (printed on the box).
eBay set the buyers shipping cost at something like $15.00.
Well, I got to the post office and the self serve bins were closed so I went to the counter.
By the time that lady got done, she said it would cost $47.40.
I didn't care for that so I left and contacted the seller. He said he would cover the additional shipping once I get it figured out.
So, I went to an outfit that handles all three of the major carriers and sent it out FedEx.
All that being said, here are my questions.
How do I keep this from happening again? I've always be able to trust the eBay amounts for everything else I've done.
How do I, or the seller, get back the postage that has already been paid out?

OP3 years agoTo answer one of my own questions just for posterity.
Under Orders in the Shipping Hub on the left side, is a heading for Shipping Labels.
From there, you can cancel it.

Mentor3 years agoGoogle USPS dimensional weight pricing. They really increased the price for larger items last year.

Mentor3 years ago@84alfa Did you round up to the next full inch when measuring the box? The size will greatly affect the price when you are shipping a larger package, just one inch can add a lot to the shipping cost.
If you are using the Quick Listing Tool or the App I recommend using the New Listing Tool that can be accessed from Seller Hub. The quick listing tool has been having issues with shipping.

Can you tell me how to go about recouping the postage for the original USPS label?
Would that go back to me or the buyer?

Mentor3 years ago@84alfa if the seller didn't use the label, he can void it when by clicking on shipping labels from hovering over Orders at the top of Seller Hub. there is a time criteria on it, so if that has passed, he has to go to the post office or the USPS website to request the refund
