Mandatory Address Validation at Checkout to Protect Sellers
I wanted to bring this up because it has been happening more often than it should.
Buyers are able to complete checkout with addresses that are incomplete or invalid. Sometimes the issue is not just returns. In some cases I cannot even purchase the shipping label unless I manually correct the address first.
That puts the seller in an awkward position. We either have to modify the address ourselves and hope it is correct, or message the buyer and delay shipment. Both options create friction.
I completely understand that typos happen. But it feels like there should be real time address validation before payment is finalized. Even a simple prompt asking the buyer to confirm their address if it does not match USPS records would probably prevent most of these situations.
Right now the burden falls on the seller after the order is placed. That leads to delays, extra work, possible returns, and sometimes additional cost.
This seems like a checkout level improvement that would help both sellers and buyers.
