Make Offer and Bids as buyer new policy needing payment info -Changing Paypal Preferences?

    Hello,

With the new policy regarding making bids and making best offers, you now have to decide on the method of payment in advance of making the offer or bid.  I use different credit cards linked to Paypal for different items.  I assume that deciding on Paypal as the method of payment in advance of placing a bid or making an offer it will automatically take the payment from your default payment method on Paypal.  I have two issues with this:

    1. Like I said, I use different cards linked to Paypal for different items.  Which card I use depends upon the item.  Under this new policy, it looks like the only way to pay for a bid/best offer using the correct card means I have to go in and keep changing the default method of payment on Paypal depending on what I'm buying.

    2. On bidding and making offers, sometimes I like to choose the Paypal "Pay In Four" feature.  It seems there is no longer a way to do this with bidding and making offers; it seems that I only have the ability to do this on a "Buy It Now" listing.  A regular bid or make offer if I win or the offer is accepted, the whole amount appears to come out at once at the time of the transaction and I do not get to choose the "Pay In Four" feature.

Is there any way around the two issues I stated above?

    Thanks for your help!

    1.  My guess is that the funding source you have set on PayPal for automatic payments to eBay (which is separate from your default funding source, although until you actually go into your paypal.com settings--Payments--Automatic Payments and edit the one for eBay, it looks like it will be the default one) at the time of the pre-authorization (i.e. when you bid/make the offer) will control and that any change at paypal.com after that won't affect it for that transaction.

You could just change the funding source for the transaction when you make the offer/bid directly to the desired credit/debit card  on the "Review your bid/offer" screen.

    2.  Pay in 4 is not available on pre-authorizations.  Also be aware that it seems like eBay gift cards are not available to use for bids but are available to use on offers.

    Hi @attjazz

Actually, there are two settings on EACH Seller's account for the Auto-pay.  Mine are turned OFF so Buyers do not have to deal with selecting a payment method when they bid on my auctions.  I don't use the Best Offer feature.

You have the option to message Sellers and ask them if they know its turned on and if they would consider turning it off.  Selling accounts are not notified when those features are added to their accounts AND they are turned ON as a default.

They are good settings to eliminate certain type scams and cut down on Unpaid items which happen frequently enough that eBay made the change ... but again, it is PER each Selling account, it is NOT for all listings on eBay.
