Made an offer, but the item was sent to me (meaning I bought it) without my knowing...
Hi. I remember making an offer a dollar or two lower than the selling price (buy it now price or the starting bid price) asking the seller to accept my lower price since I was buying another item from him/her.
A few days had passed, and I was aware the seller didn't respond, so I thought my bid was just ignored, maybe, the seller was too busy doing other things since my purchase was petty.
However, yesterday the item came, so I was like what happened? The price wasn't what I offered, or there's no way to check the record. I checked my 'message' or 'sent' under Myebay, but there's nothing. Is there a way to know what message I sent to the seller when I made an offer? I'm confused.

·2 years agoYou preauthorized payment (if the seller accepted) when you made the offer, providing (or confirming) your shipping address and means of payment. When the seller accepted it was paid for immediately and automatically and so the seller shipped it. Check your email for an "Order confirmed" email from eBay (or did you delete it thinking it was a phishing scam?).
ALWAYS periodically (at least every 3 days, since you have 4 days to pay) check your My eBay: Bid/Offers and Purchases sections whenever you have made a bid or offer until you confirm the offer has been rejected or expired or accepted or the auction ended with/without you as the winner. Don't rely on getting (or noticing) a message from eBay.
eBay had been "experimenting" with requiring pre-authorization of payment for Best Offers for over a year and a half (started prior to Halloween 2021), adding more and more users into the test group required to do so (sellers can opt their listings out of it; buyers cannot opt out once they are assigned). Too many users were making offers and then not paying when it was accepted, and too many of those were scammers who would try to get the seller to text or email them to get their number/email address to send fake payment messages to.
They have now officially made it permanent and all buyers are now required to pre-authorize payment for Best Offers they make on listings for sellers who have not opted out of the program. They started trying it out on auction bids (with a smaller group of buyers that is growing) in Spring or early Summer 2023 and that is still experimental. They will also start experimenting with requiring pre-authorization or payment for accepting offers from sellers soon.
