Looking for advice on selling vintage electronics
When auctioning electronics on eBay like camcorders. Sometimes I don't get all the parts needed to fully test a product before listing. I test everything I can & post the results in the listing & specify what I could & could not be tested. This is not the same as selling a product for parts compared to used ones. Example: Some features can't be tested without a specific piece of hardware. Video/photo equipment normally has a few parts you need to fully test the device. SD card, Battery, Cables, Tapes, Film, or other. Some cameras you can test with just a charger & no battery or some require a battery to turn on. I have purchased testing equipment over the years so I can charge almost any battery but sometimes I don't receive a charger for me to be able to fully test a camera to make sure a charger port on the camera works. More often than not, the parts are not made anymore & buyers that do make a purchase have the parts.
- Is it fair to say if there was an issue that a buyer comes across that I specifically said I was not able to test to make sure it was working, that they would be charged for the return shipping?
- Do I increase my risk of additional expenses by promoting a listing if an item is returned or does eBay refund paid promotions depending on the return reason the buyer picked?
- Do you have any recommendations for me to protect myself from potential losses?
