Looking for Advice on Reinstating a Long-Term Restricted eBay Account
Hi everyone,
I’m hoping someone here might have some experience or advice to share.
Many years ago, my eBay account was restricted from selling without a detailed explanation, but I would like to reopen the case and see if there’s any path toward reinstatement.
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to get clear answers through eBay’s help channels, and I’m unsure of the best steps to take. Has anyone here had success getting a long-term account restriction reviewed or reversed?
Years ago, I had a personal eBay account, and later I decided to open a business account for my company. I followed all the necessary steps: registered my business officially, listed myself as the owner, and filled out all the required information per eBay’s policies, including using my name on both accounts as requested.
Some time after that, eBay tried to reach me at my work email, but unfortunately, I was on vacation and missed their message. Because I didn’t respond in time, they flagged the activity as suspicious. Soon after, both my personal and business accounts were restricted from selling.
I contacted eBay as soon as I realized what had happened. They told me they needed time to review the situation. After some time passed, I received a final decision: both accounts would remain restricted without any detailed explanation.
I’ve since tried calling and messaging multiple times, but I keep getting generic responses like “we’re reviewing your case,†followed by the same final answer—no reinstatement, and no clear reason.
Eventually, I moved on to other platforms, but it still feels deeply unfair. I didn’t try to deceive or break any rules—I simply missed one email while I was away, and now I’m permanently banned from selling on a platform I really enjoyed.
- Is there a specific department or escalation process that worked for you?
- Does eBay reconsider restrictions after a certain amount of time?
- Would it help to write a formal appeal or send a letter by mail?
I’ve always valued eBay as a platform and would love a second chance to sell responsibly. Any insights, personal experiences, or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your help!

This account shows activity within the past year. Are you asking about a different account?
When an eBay account is restricted or suspended, the only way you might be able to contact eBay is via email. They might read it but there is no guarantee they will respond.
If you go to Help and Contact, select the email>account option.

Mentor1 year agoIf the original message to you (and the subsequent messages to you) did not indicate a length of time for the suspension then this was an indefinite suspension which is eBay's polite way of saying forever. As far as we know no seller has ever been allowed to sell again after an indefinite suspension. eBay customer service will actually not even talk with you about this.
