local pickup

Question

Hi all,I had someone pick up an item in person. When they arrived, they didn't have cash and proceeded to pay thru the ebay app. I saw on my end that payment was processed so I let them leave with the item. I later went in the ebay app to mark as picked up but it's saying the buyer has to do it. They keep telling me they can't find any way to do it. It appears that the payment is held back until item is "received" what do I need to do?

After purchase buyer receives a pickup confirmation code from ebay. You do not release the item until you either scan it or input it manually. You need to contact the buyer and ask them to provide you with this code so you can complete the transaction.

Did the buyer choose local pick up as the shipping option when they purchased? If so the buyer receives a pickup QR code and a digit code when they pay. The seller scans the code or manually enters the digit code when the buyer picks up the item as proof of pickup. The buyer can find the code in their purchase history for the item and give you the digit code to enter.

If the buyer chose a shipping option but later picked up the item there is no way for you or the buyer to mark it as picked up. Since you used a different delivery method than the one the buyer selected when they purchased all you can do is mark it as shipped on the order. The option is in the drop down menu for the item on your orders page.

If this should happen again the way to handle it is to cancel the sale using problem with buyer's address and relist the item with the correct shipping method for them to repurchase. That way the buyer receives the QR code and digit code for the seller to enter as proof of delivery.

Since you do not have proof of delivery your funds will be released, if the buyer does not make a return or refund claim, after the full hold time.
