Mentor2 years agoThere is an option but it's not one that you'll like. (Actually there are 2 options.)
Option 1: Honor the price for your error. (Ebay does allow for and recommend proof reading listings prior to hitting the post button.
Option 2: Cancel the order for either OOS (out of stock) or damaged/broken and get a defect. As long as you don't do it too often, this one ding won't hurt too badly.
Do NOT cancel as "buyer requested." It's not honest and is reportable. If the buyer reports you, the ding will hurt more than the OOS ding.

Mentor2 years ago@vacekterrie You can not charge the buyer more than stated on the listing.
The only way out of this error is to cancel as out of stock damaged. Cancel is in the drop down menu next to the sold listing. You will receive a defect on your account. Be careful not to get more defects or you can be banned from selling on eBay.
Then you do NOT relist the item on eBay. The buyer will most likely leave negative feedback. You can try explaining the mistake and why you are canceling and they might not leave the negative feedback.

OP2 years agoThank you for your response. I can't believe i did this. It is not fair to state the option you suggested because it doesn't apply. I don't need a defect on my account and they are not good about removing negative feedback. This is a horrible penalty for an honest mistake.
I guess it all depends on the buyer.
I called ebay and told them if the buyer wouldnt pay the difference I would cancel under buyer cancel and they said to do that and relist. I asked if they would remove negative feedback if that happened and they said it would get removed but I can't trust anything the reps say because they will promise things that don't follow up.

·2 years agoYou can't ask the buyer to pay anymore then what you put in the listing.
No, if the buyer won't pay, you can't cancel the order as buyer requested.
You have two options:
Ship and take the loss.
Cancel and earn the defect.

Mentor2 years agoI am sorry that you made a mistake, however this is not eBay's fault so they expect you to handle it.
I told you the true eBay policy for this situation.
The agents sometimes tell sellers what they want to hear on the phone. You are correct that the feedback won't be removed if left as it doesn't violate any of the feedback policies linked here>

If the buyer reports you to eBay for using the "buyer requested" when you didn't then you will get a defect. Using Buyer Requested when they did not request it is MUCH more likely to earn you a negative feedback.
Your options are to cancel as I stated OR ship and take the loss.

Mentor2 years agoNo one "needs" a defect but this is your error, honest or not. And if you get negged for the cancellation, ebay would see that as legitimate and wouldn't remove it.
They gave you bad information and if you do as you say they suggested, I PROMISE it'll come back to bite you.
And they WON'T remove the neg, especially when you've not told the truth about the reason for cancelling.

OP2 years agoIs there absolutely no way to avoid a defect or negative feedback? That just isn't fair if the alternative is a $50.00 cost to me to follow through with the sale. How is that even considered customer service???

Mentor2 years agoHi @vacekterrie
I read your post and the replies from @comics-scifi-collectibles and @kensgiftshop . If you sell long enough mistakes happen, I know I have a list of them myself.
All eBay sees is a price and a sale, they really have no idea it was a pricing mistake and as you've stated, I am not sure I would trust them for the removal of potential Negative Feedback ... which hasn't happened yet right?!?
I suggest that you be honest with the Buyer if you already haven't and simply tell them you made a mistake on the price just like you told us here. Ask them if they would be kind enough to message you back asking for the transaction to be cancelled. If they do then you can use the reason "Buyer requested ..." no strike on your account.
I have done that on occasion and Buyers have responded in kind, it never hurst to ask.
The worse case scenario is that you ship as it was sold and take the loss. Regarding that I am a little curious, how is there a $ 50.00 loss on an item that was originally supposed to be priced at $ 29.95. You sold it for $ 2.95 with $ 8.95 shipping (that I see). I am not being critical, just curious.
Really sorry this happened.

OP2 years agoThank you for your reply. Yes, I have explained truthfully about the issue at hand to the buyer but they have not responded. They are probably aware that Ebay sides with buyers and that I am between a rock and a hard place. I have not had overall good experiences with so many lies and deceptions their reps give.
I was intending to post the listing ,at first for 29.95, which is how the error happened. I researched further and saw that the item could be reasonably listed at 50.00 which was my intention to do after...if you can beleive it...that buyer actually put in an official offer of $2.00!!! I declined the offer, of course, and as I was going to revise they hastened to just purchase at the incorrect listed price. It all happened so fast that I didn't get a chance to alter anything because I could not access the listing til responding to the official offer.
THIS PERSON, IT SEEMS, KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING AND ANTICIPATED THE ISSUE AT HAND.
Ebay doesn't care about any situation... just buyers being happy. I would not be on this selling site if I didn't need the income. My outlook on people has become depressingly negative whereas it was not before having been on Ebay!!!!
I guess I will have to incur a defect or take a huge financial loss. Maybe even be subjected to negative feedback. How can a rep just say anything and ebay not back up what they utter although the conversation is supposedly taped????
They have not been challenged legally, that i know of, so they can probably do whatever they want!!! I don't understand how people can work for them and be aware of what goes on there.

Thank you for the reply and additional information. I looked at the trench coat, it looks nice so I get the $ 50 potential value. Yes, it sounds like you are resigned to either taking the loss or the defect on your account and possibly a less than Positive Feedback. Again, sorry it happened.
Not sure what your Handling time is but if you have some time I would wait in the oft chance the Buyer is simply away and hasn't had time to respond.

OP2 years agoThank you for your time. I wish people were kinder and more caring as you seem to be.
But...they are not and life goes on!!!
