Limits on listed items
Hello, everybody!
Since it is virtually impossible to contact eBay directly, I am reaching out to my fellow sellers. Every month I get a notice from eBay that I can add up to 250 new listing to my account every single month. Even though I do not have more that 250 items, last time I was charged $.35 for a few items as "initiation fee". It is either their statement is misleading, or I am misreading it. What is the final verdict? Am I allowed to have 250 listings total in my account or I am allowed to list up to 250 new items as they it sounds? It is quite frustrating as Mercari and Poshmark strongly encourage sellers to list as many items as I please.

It is 250 total for the month NOT 250 this month and 250 next month = 500.
Any listings over 250 in one month will cost you the Insertion fees. So if you have 300 total listings one month you will be charged for 50 Insertion fees at $ 0.35 = $ 17.50
Buy it now items automatically Relist each month on the same day the listing went live on your Active list.

Keep track of your average sale price, when it hits an amount that covers a monthly store fee you can consider a store to increase how much you can list for the price of the store: Store selling fees | eBay

OP11 months agoI mainly sell on Poshmark, and just fairly recently started on eBay and Mercari. I don't think I sell enough on eBay to justify owning a store. If/when I pick up the speed, I might consider that, but for now it is a little thing for mainly entertainment purposes )). I am definitely more active on Poshmark for 6 years now.
Since you are so nice and knowledgeable, may I ask you a question? What do you think about General or Advanced Promotion; is it worth it?

I used the Promoted Listings Standard successfully for a number of years until early 2022 when eBay launched Promoted Listings Advance (meaning pre-paying fees for the top spots in returned searches). They also changed how they count Views, only keeping them for the last 30 days. They also magically doubled and tripled their "Suggested ad rates" for Promoted Listings Standards in my categories which made using the Promoted Listings feature unsustainable.
My sales started to steadily decline in 2022 to present where I have been trying to regain a growth curve. I do not Promote and I do not use Best Offer. At the end of 2023 I completely abandoned Promoted Listings Standard and based on my experience I would not recommend promoting but just figure on making organic sales and if things take off great, if not then make other decisions.

OP11 months agoWow! I suppose I should not be surprised as every company tries to make a sale by assessing many fees, on top of their selling fee. I did not think it is a fair deal: to be charged by clicks on the item. Poshmark started offering that kind of "promotion" too, but I never used it as I have a suspicion that it is another money trap.

Yep ... I suspect most venues want to push the advertising costs on to their customers, which happens to be their Sellers. Buyers are customers of the Sellers not the venue, a point at times that seems to have been forgotten.
