Late refund request.
Cookie jar was shipped very well. Like was bubble wrapped and inverted inside the jar. A week later the buyer said the lid was cracked. I find this very odd. No refund has been sent yet. I just find it odd, that it took a week for any feedback to been had. Am I obligated to accept that refund? Thanks. New seller here.

Cookie jars are extremely difficult to ship safely. Usually it's the 'bottom' that concusses if not filled with ... and surrounded by ... packing peanuts or bubble wrap.
Buyers have 30 daysfrom delivery to file a return request ... so the request isn't 'late'. [Not everyone is home when an item arrives ... nor able to examine the item if ill or on away from home.]
The buyer is entitled to a full refund if they claim the item is 'not as described' in some way. The only question is whether you want to pay the return shipping (for a broken item) before issuing the refund.
Without question ... eBay will find in favor of the buyer. They'll likely give the buyer a full refund (with your money) and let them keep the item. They'll give you a 'defect' ... and keep your fees ... because you didn't handle the buyer's complaint yourself.
I'm very sorry this happened, but you absolutely MUST refund the buyer ... OR provide a prepaid shipping label ... BEFORE the buyer is able to ask eBay to step in, which is 3 business days of the dispute being filed.

·3 years agoThe first broken item I ever received was a broken cookie jar. The lid was taped to the jar and not wrapped separately and there was no stuffing inside the jar. Just a big hollow space. They wrapped it with a single layer of the bubble wrap with small bubbles. It fit snug in the box. No packing peanuts. No double boxing. They had the nerve to accuse me of dropping it when I unpacked it!

Mentor3 years agoIf buyer files a Return Request for a damaged item, you need to either accept the return if you want it back before refunding, or refund without a return. You might also offer a partial refund to cover the damage, but buyer has no obligation to accept it. What ever you do, resolve it without ebay having to step in, which would put a strike on your account with a refund and no return.
