Japan to US shipping
Sorry if this has been asked to death, but I see a lot of conflicting answers of custom fees or import fees, what I want to buy is tapestry(wall scrolls), desk mats, and figures. can I buy it like normal? with no issues or do I need a proxy service(I hear they are expensive). Please any help would be appreciated. Like are there any extra fees. Any help would be appreciated thx.

Mentor3 years ago@Anonymous Last I checked there are not import custom fees on items shipped to the US unless they were $600 or more. I might be off on the amount though.
You should check the US customs department page for this information.
You will have to pay the sales tax that your state charges for items delivered to your state.

OP3 years agoOkay thx and is the state sales tax included in the checkout on ebay? Also I checked the site you mentioned and said $800 to $2000. Thx

Mentor3 years agoState sales taxes are not normally collected when the sale is an International one. Although the USPS and other shippers will collect Customs Fees before turning the package over to you they do not deal in Sales Taxes. You would have to claim the purchase on your State Income Tax return and pay the sales tax then.

Mentor3 years ago@Anonymous Sorry, brain is foggy on the customs amounts. I think it depends on what the item is too.
So to be safe I would say that customs fees would be due on purchases over $800.
The customs fees amount is NOT charged by eBay you pay it after the item reaches the US.
As for state sales tax it IS charged based on the BUYERS location and not by where the SELLER is located. That is charged at checkout. Most ALL states now have the market place sales tax law.
Items delivered to a United States address
For items shipped to a US address, the tax responsibility falls into the following three categories:
Marketplace responsibility
Marketplace responsibility refers to states where eBay collects and remits sales tax on behalf of sellers.
If your shipping address is in one of the marketplace responsibility states within the US, applicable sales tax will be collected by eBay and included in the order total at checkout. To find out if your address is in a marketplace responsibility state, you can find the full list of states below.
Seller responsibility
