Japan only version of ham radio equipment.
The many sellers of ham radio equipment from Japan are failing to disclose that most of the radios they are selling are "Japan only versions" of the product. The radios simply do not connect to North American repeaters due to their truncated band width. Something must be done to require the sellers to indicate which model radio they are selling: Japan only, European or American version. The bandwidth requirements are all different and the Japanese government requires that "Japan only" radios can not be modified to expand the bandwidth to the North American version. I bought one of these radios and had to get Ebay to step in when the seller refused to take back the radio and refund my money. This is a source of great frustration to all buyers of ham radio equipment and after my experience I have talked to many other Americans that have also been burned by buying undisclosed "Japan only" versions. Please, can't something be done about this? If the sellers will not properly disclose which version they are selling maybe Ebay could post a blanket warning for buyers to enquire which version is being offered before bidding? What really needs to happen is for Ebay to forbid a ham radio posting that does not disclose which version is being sold. Thanks for listening.

·3 years agoIt is very unlikely that eBay will require any additional information on these radios. If the listing does not provide the information, contact the seller prior to buying or bidding to find out. If the seller does not respond, find another seller.
