I've twice ordered items which listed shipping, paid the price, and now the seller wants more
Twice now I've ordered large items that will require special packaging.
The first, I asked the seller (who had added "local pickup" to their listing whether they might still investigate shipping. In response, I received a lowered price that included reasonable shipping, which I paid. The seller now wants to cancel and in fact did cancel even thought my credit card had already been charged.
The second time, shipping cost was on the listing. I purchased the item, and the seller now says that shipping will be 10x what I paid. This one has not yet attempted to cancel my purchase.
It seems to me that in both cases I had a contract for sale. I don't want to be unreasonable, I even asked the first one again if they could investigate shipping and I might offer more, but s/he NTL canceled the sale. How does eBay handle such a situation? I have asked and received no official answer.

Mentor1 year agoHi @lcbandrew
eBay policy is that sellers cannot ask for more Morgan is shown in the listing.
That said, if you are asking sellers to ship items that they listed for Local Pickup Only … then you should stop doing that.
I apologize if I misunderstood what actually happened.

OP1 year agoThanks, HOP, LOVE your icon (Siamesophile here). Oh, and do you have a HOUSEFUL of my fave feline?
In the first case, I gently INQUIRED about the possibility of shipping, along with empathy for the fact that we probably both suffer from the same disease, and did not receive any response, except an offer with a reduced price AND a shipping price, which I accepted and paid. The seller then reversed the sale.
In the second case, a shipping price was on the listing. It did not say "Local Pickup Only", which is why I pursued the offer after my first learning experience. After some correspondence about details of the item, I paid the posted purchase price including shipping. The seller THEN investigated the cost of shipping and asked for 10x more. I politely responded to the seller with a copy of my receipt, and it appears that eBay may have canceled the response as violative of some policy (although it's hard to know, eBay didn't include a copy of the email they canceled, and there had been several inquiries). I don't know whether I did wrong or eBay erred, but it is not clear as yet that the seller knows that I think I have a valid contract and purchase. I just sent that message again, I guess I will see whether it bounces.
I believe I will probably just go retail, this is too much uncertainty and hassle to deal with at this point and in my condition.

OP1 year agoWow, have now sent the receipt message twice to the seller and it has yet to be received by him. In at least one case, it implied that I had violated some policy by politely pointing out that the shipping price was already included in the sale, and that I had paid it.
Seller is asking again whether I want to pay 9-10x the original shipping price.
When registering a complaint with eBay, there is no option to cover this situation.
There is just "did not arrive" or "did not work" or the like. Not "seller upped the shipping price after the sale".
Do I have any recourse?
Thanks!
