There was no reserve on the item you sold. It sounds like you set up the listing with an auction starting price and a Buy It Now Price. On an auction listing, the Buy It Now price goes away with the first bid.
A reserve price costs money that usually is not worth spending. For the future, just start the bidding at the least you'd be happy with if you receive just one bid.

A buy it now price is not a reserve. If someone bids, then the buy it now price goes away and the high bidder wins the item.
Your new listing does not have a reserve price either, and can sell for the same $.99 as your first listing.
An easy way to tell if you put a reserve on your auction is if eBay charges you a reserve fee when you submit your listing - this is paid even if your item does not sell.
Instead of using a reserve, start your auction at the lowest price you will be happy to accept.
