Item sold for less than the price I had it listed for.
I'm trying to figure out why an item I sold went for a price less than what I had it listed for. Exactly 10% off as a matter of fact, but I didn't offer any discount on the item and hadn't sent out any offers to buyers who were watching. Anybody have any ideas about this?

OP8 months agoI double checked the original listing specifics (using the sell a similar item tab) and I did not have it accidentally turned on. I never toggle the auto price reduction on but that was a good suggestion, thanks for taking the time to respond. Any other ideas on what might have happened?

Sell one like this only shows the current settings, not the full history of what happened to the live listing, so it cannot rule things out by itself.
If auto price reduction was off, the other causes that commonly result in an exact 10 percent difference are:
eBay funded coupon
eBay often issues 10 percent off coupons to buyers. Those do not reduce your payout, but the order can look like it sold for less. Open the order and select View order details to see if an eBay coupon was applied.
Sale event or markdown
If the item was included in a sale event at any point, even one created earlier and forgotten, the discounted price becomes the purchase price. Check Seller Hub > Marketing > Discounts > Sale events.
Price revision before purchase
If the price was edited at any time before the buyer checked out, the buyer pays whatever price was active at checkout. Sell one like this does not show previous revisions.
The order details page is the definitive place to see what happened. It will always show whether a coupon, sale, or pricing rule was applied.

Look at my screenshot. This is the new eBay Auto price reduction feature. If this is turned on, eBay automatically lowers the actual listing price over time until the item sells or reaches the minimum price you set. The buyer did not receive a coupon and did not send an offer. They simply purchased the item after the price had already been reduced.
This option can be turned on by default when creating, editing, or relisting items, and many sellers don’t notice it. I would strongly recommend checking all of your active listings to make sure this setting is turned off if you don’t want your prices changing automatically.
