item sent to wrong PO Box
I have had a perplexing problem several times in the past two years when I bought something. This time eBay sent me the tracking number and information as usual and then told me a few days later by email that it had been delivered to my PO Box. But the package was never delivered to my PO Box and when I ask the post master and when he looks up "my" tracking number in the USPS system, their system says it had someone else's name and PO Box (in our village) and that the package with "my" tracking number was delivered to them. He is not allowed to say who it was, but this has happened 3 times in the past two years. Does anyone have the same experiences and know why it happens? After the last time it happened, I made complicated, very safe passwords for eBay and PayPal so it doesn't seem to be hacking. Any ideas what I can do?

I'm sorry that happened.
1) First, call the post office to see if the tracking number label contained your name and your address.
a) If your name and correct address were on the label, ask USPS to review the GPS on the delivery, retrieve the item from the wrong house, and deliver it to you.
b) If your name and address weren't on that label, ask the Post Office if they will put this in writing (that your name wasn't on the package). Also, ask for the weight of the package using that tracking number. Follow the rest of the steps starting with 2 below:
2) Then, report the seller using this process
https://www.ebay.com/help/action?topicid=4022
Important, select "The seller has violated one of eBay’s policies"
then "Other"
Explain that the seller is using fake USPS tracking numbers
Include these phrases
Don't write a novel, it's initially being read by a computer, that's why I want you to use those 3 specific phrases in the message.
3) Finally, contact Customer Service and inform them that the seller uploaded a "false tracking number" on your purchase. Request a refund.
Use the Customer Service that is on social media this way:
Just sent a private message to the page. Explain you have a fake or false tracking number situation.
Let me know how this goes, I've been burned a few times myself (including on Amazon), but I have been able to get a refund following this process.
There are additional steps to take if the above isn't effective, just come back and update me.

OP7 months agoThanks. The Postmaster says my name and PO Box were not on the label but I can't say that the seller downloaded false information because (as a seller myself) eBay gives the seller the label (apparently with the false information). The seller doesn't have a choice. I can get a statement from the Postmaster and submit that to eBay customer service (I don't use social media to avoid unusual things happening). That should work shouldn't it?

Yes, you can use Regular eBay Customer Service, they just are not as familiar and responsive to this issue. Do the Reporting Step first
No, eBay doesn't always provide the seller a label. It's possible to buy a label off eBay and it's possible to buy a label from a 3rd party such as pirate ship or at the USPS counter.
It's also possible to hack tracking numbers (somehow) and upload those numbers to an order and ship nothing at all. This is what I think happened in your case. Fake tracking numbers. Bad sellers who need to be removed.
