item returned with damage done by buyer and buyer issued full refund.
It has been a while since this transaction, but I would still like answers.
I offered a new old stock outboard lower unit for sale. Price was several hundred dollars. Evidently the purchaser tried to make it fit buy pounding it in place with a large hammer. Doing so a piece of the lower unit/skeg was broken off. At that point it was damaged and could never again be sold as NOS. The buyer returned it without contacting me and Ebay issued him a what amounted to a full refund without any input from me. I would have insisted the buyer only receive a partial refund if given the chance but there seemed no way to reverse the full refund at the time. I still have the part but have done nothing with it, as I would have to offer it now at a greatly discounted price since it is significantly damaged.
Has anyone else had experience with a damaged return item being refunded full purchase price before they have received and examined the retuned item? What can be done?
