Item refund
I have a buyer who purchased an item before reading a message response I sent that it wouldn't work for their use. I made the shipping label and before I shipped they reached out after they seen my response about it not being the correct item they wanted and didn't want the item. I was ok with that, but they started a "return" but I haven't shipped the item. The return was auto approved and it won't let me refund. They have until the 24th to ship back an item that was never shipped. How do I do the refund?

You should be able to refund from the return case.

OP9 months agoThat's what I thought, it gives me the option to refund now. I click it and it takes me to the next screen and the continue button is grayed out and I can't click on it. I've tried to go through another way and it tells me I can't do a refund while a return is open.

Is there something on the next screen that you have to fill in (like a refund amount or a reason)?

OP9 months agoNo, it shows the item info, pic and item# with a grayed out continue button with the rest of the screen blank. Idk if I need to contact ebay directly? Their little text assist wasn't helpful.

Did you enter the refund amount?

OP9 months agoI don't get that screen in any of the avenues to do a refund. One of the ways it tells "because the buyer has started a return you can't do a refund at this time"

Go to the case and select the option to accept the return. That should allow you to refund (though that's not something you would do with a normal return. With a normal return, you would not refund until you have the item back.).
(The buyer should never have opened a return in the first place. How can you return something you don't have? But something in the eBay process is making buyers think they should choose this option as there are numerous posts here stating that the buyer started a return for an item he doesn't have. I can't see the process, so I'm not sure what it is...)
