Item not recieved
I recently had a seller simultaneously give me tracking info for an item that was not delivered to me but says delivered before I even got tracking, then send me a message saying my item was lost, and then issue me a refund through eBay that has yet to come through on my credit card. This all happened in a matter of minutes which seemed very strange. Is this some kind of a new scam?

OP6 months agoYa it looks that way, I have gotten most of my refunds instantly through ebay and this has already almost been 3 days. And it would make sense because now with a refund showing I have no way of going through ebay for a dispute.

OP6 months agoEbay says a refund was issued, but there is nothing on my card to show that. I would guess this is one of the fake tracking number situations from the looks of it

I don't know how long it takes for the monies to move out of eBay and back through to the original funding source but I do know it is not instantaneous. I am sure it varies from one source to another.
Any information that a seller sends you in an eBay message is NOT binding and could be just a ploy to try and string you out past the 30 days you are covered by eBay's Money Back Guarantee:

That would be either 30 days AFTER a confirmed delivery through tracking OR the original estimated delivery date at the time of purchase.

Were you refunded the full amount of your purchase? The Seller may be new and not know what they are doing, panicked and just refunded.
If they did not refund everything you paid then that is the scam. So you are saying that the item in your Purchase history is showing that it was delivered to you right? Purchases | My eBay | eBay
We do know of one scam with regard to an item showing delivered but a Buyer does not have the item, that is explained here and what we share with members:
Unfortunately, you have fallen prey to the False tracking number scam. You filed a claim through eBay that you did not receive the item but since tracking showed it was delivered, they ruled against you.
You need to get a document from the Post Office stating that the package was not delivered to your address and then contact eBay with that information to prove delivery confirmation was to a different address than yours. Make sure you tell eBay it was a False tracking number scam.
We recently learned that many of the links we post to Request a call back are now simply forwarding members to eBay's Customer Service "How can we help you today?" page (link below). On that page members have to complete numerous choices before being given ways to be in direct contact with eBay. Depending on the subject, representative availability and other factors requesting a call back may or may not be possible. Chat or an email may be provided. If you get a Chat box Type “AGENT in the box. You can also contact eBay through Social Media if you have accounts there

Contact customer service by sending a PRIVATE message on social media. Customer service verifies your identity before responding.

If for some reason eBay does not refund you then you will have to pursue a dispute with your card company or PayPal. Just know that if you do that eBay will not support you at all if you run into issues with the dispute.
