item not Authenticated now buyer wants refund
Summary: jacktaylor619 sold slabs via eBay's authenticity service, but they were not authenticated due to being miscategorized. lisa5768 explained that sets cannot be listed as single items, causing ineligibility for authentication. They advised relisting each item separately for future eligibility. Currently, jacktaylor619 is advised to inform the buyer of the mistake and manage any refund requests through a return process.
I sold 5 slabs that could’ve be authenticated by eBay’s authenticator email stated:
“We wanted to let you know that your item is on its way to the buyer. Unfortunately, the authenticator determined that the item was miscategorized and is therefore ineligible for our Authenticity Guarantee.”
now the buyer wants a refund but the slabs are already on its way to them. How can I get these authenticated since they are legitimate slabs? I’m just not sure what couldn’t be authenticated by the authenticator. If it was miscategorized what does that mean and how do I fix it so it can get authenticated? How can I get it reauthenticated?

Mentor1 month agoThe buyer needs to file a returns request once he gets the items from the authenticator. You accept the return, and ebay will send the buyer a link to print the return shipping label.
What CATEGORY did you list the items in? I suggest you do a search on ebay for similar items and see what categories those sellers used to list their items.

Your cards were listed in the wrong category. Sets of cards can not be listed in the single card category, even if the set is made up of single cards, and are not eligible for the authenticity guarantee. That is why they were not authenticated. Since they are not eligible they were forwarded to the buyer.
You can let the buyer know the category mistake and if they still want a refund have them open a return when they receive them.
The only way to have them eligible for the authenticity guarantee is to sell each one separately on it's own listing, not as a set.
