Item never received – 30-day report window passed – need help
Summary: sofoadram0 is seeking help because they haven't received an item purchased on eBay, which was returned to the seller after being stuck in customs. The deadline to report this through eBay has passed, and the seller is offering a partial refund. jacbarcollectibles advises attempting a chargeback through the payment source, noting that eBay rarely makes exceptions to their deadlines. sofoadram0 plans to try a Visa chargeback and expresses frustration with eBay's lack of customer support compared to other platforms.
Hello,
I'm reaching out to the community because I haven't been able to get through to eBay customer service, and the automated assistant doesn't redirect me to a human agent.
Situation: I bought a thing on 14 March 2026 for 9,980 AUD (order number 21-14346-83133), paid by card through eBay checkout. The item was never delivered: it was held up in customs in Greece, and after several failed delivery attempts it was returned to the seller in the USA. So I have never received the item.
For several months, the seller kept me directly updated by email about the situation (customs, return, FedEx claim), and I was in good-faith, active discussion with him to find a solution. It's only now that I've realized the 30-day window to report an item not received through eBay's system has passed, and I can no longer find the corresponding option in my purchase history.
The seller has now confirmed in writing that the item was indeed returned to him, but he's only offering a partial refund (6,753 AUD out of 9,980 AUD), deducting his own eBay selling fees and part of a loss he incurred with his own supplier. I never received the item, so I'm disputing these deductions and want a full refund.
My question: is there a way to have my case opened or reviewed outside the standard window, given that the delay was due to good-faith negotiation with the seller and not inaction on my part? I have the complete email correspondence to support this.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Mentor3 weeks agoSorry this happened to you. Unfortunately eBay's money back guaranty deadlines are strictly enforced. eBay makes no exceptions as they would always have to make exceptions. You never let a seller string you along until the deadline passes.
Your only hope now is to go back to your payment source and see if you can still open a charge back. Each payment source has a different time limit for opening charge backs and few will go longer than 180 days from purchase.

Yes, I’ll try to file a chargeback through Visa. It’s a good lesson for me. With Amazon, you can always get in touch with a real person and explain the situation, even after quite a long time has passed. eBay just doesn't care.
