Item I purchased was authenticated, but for wrong item
Summary: catherincapozz-0 purchased what was listed as a Birkin 30 bag for $12,000, knowing it was actually an Hermes HAC 32. Although eBay authenticated the bag as genuine, they incorrectly identified it as a Birkin 30. catherincapozz-0 is now questioning the reliability of eBay's authentication process, despite believing the bag is legitimate. I bought an Hermes HAC 32 on auction from a seller for about 12k, who listed it as a Birkin 30. I bought it knowing the listing title from the seller was incorrect, but figured as long as it got authenticated as genuine then no harm no foul. The listing didn't have many photos of the bag, including of the stamp. The seller also had a history of only about 20 items.
eBay said the bag was genuine, but also called it a Birkin 30. I'm positive it's not (it measures as 32 cm in width, not 30; its height, handle structure, etc are all that of a HAC; and I own both style bags and it 's clearly a HAC32 and not a Birkin). I'm now pretty concerned about the legitimacy of eBay's authentication team: this is a really basic thing to catch for anyone who knows anything about Hermes. My bag seems legit though I'd feel waaaay better about certain aspects like the hardware and stamp if I could actually trust the authentication team's assessment.
What should I do here?

MentorSep 7, 2026 at 4:04 PM@catherincapozz-0 I would file a not as described return request right away. eBay may not allow it since it was "authenticated" . If they do not allow it and you have the bag checked out by a reputable site and find out it is counterfeit then you would have to file a chargeback with your funding source.
