Item does not work
I purchased an item in December 2025 as a Christmas gift. The item did not work and I worked with the seller going back and forth for months and it still does not work. We exchanged photos and all kinds of information. I believe the seller was sincere in helping but the product still does not work. I requested a refund and the seller has gone silent. EBAY WILL NOT STEP IN. IT CUTS ME OFF BECAUSE THE RETURN POLICY IS OVER 90 DAYS. I cannot go any further with Ebay customer service. This is infuriating as I have all the correspondence between myself and the seller as proof that we tried to resolve this issue. This is completely and totally ridiculous.

Some sellers love to work with the buyer for months, because each tick of the clock takes the buyer toward the end of the guarantee period. The buyer gets a 30 day window – not 90 days if that's what your comment meant – to file a claim under eBay's Money Back Guarantee. If the seller can stall the buyer with "help", &/or excuses, false promises, etc., until the 31st day, he's home free . . . olly olly oxen.
Your recourse after eBay is to try the funding source that you used to pay for the item, usually a credit card. Although a credit card chargeback is viable longer than eBay's MBG, even the credit card has a finite period until the window closes. It's worth a try, though, because there is nothing you can do on eBay. Good luck.
edited to add: When a chargeback request is granted, typically, in addition to the payment reversal, the seller will be charged an additional $20 as a "dispute fee" unless s/he has protection per applicable provisions of policy. See https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/selling-policies/payment-dispute-seller-protections?id=5293 if you're curious how that works.

Mentor4 months agoebay's Money Back Guarantee expires 30 days after receipt. ebay can no longer help you. If you paid with a credit card, you can contact the issuer regarding a charge back. You only have 180 days from the date of the transaction.
