Item delivered to wrong address
USPS delivered a package to the wrong address but tracking information says it was delivered. Ebay and USPS have denied insurance claims because the tracking says it was delivered. The local post office tells me verbally that it was delivered to the wrong address. How do I get USPS or ebay to pay for a lost package when the USPS tracking information says delivered?

USPS has the GPS tracking location of the item and where it was delivered. That will tell you if it was delivered to your residence or elsewhere. It could also be a shipping address scam by the Seller.
Was it an expensive item?

OP2 years agoThanks for the information. I checked with the post office three weeks ago and they have told me that the GPS location of where it was delivered is not at my house and they would try to retrieve the package. So far that has not happened but Ebay and USPS have denied my insurance claims because the USPS tracking system says it was "Delivered". The seller has been non-helpful other than to tell me to call the post office.

If it has been more than a few days the Post Office is NOT going to get the package back from where it was delivered. If it was an address scam it was something cheap with most likely a bogus return address. I asked if it was an expensive item?
eBay is a 3rd party removed from the process, they never saw the label the Seller used, they were not with the carrier when they delivered the package, all they can see is the electronic tracking history which confirms the transaction shipped an item and tracking confirmed it was delivered. What they SHOULD be able to see very quickly is whether or not the Seller paid for the label through their site ... THAT information is on record ... there is either a label charge or their isn't but the privacy issue prevents them from sharing that account specific information ... sad but true.

If it was, you need to get the post office to either collect the package from the wrong address or else change the tracking to reflect the misdelivery.
If your address was not on the package you need to get documentation from the post office that indicates that. For more info see here:

OP2 years agoAs far as I know my address is on the package but I will go back to the post office today to confirm that and ask them to change the status from delivered to something else.
Thanks for your response.

It may help to bring a copy of your order details that shows your address and the tracking number, so you can show that the seller gave you that tracking number.
Good luck!
