this item was mailed to buyer the way he requested .Media mail.
the package was damaged is shipping ,looks like oil was dropped on the envelope &seeped onto the item inside . Why do I have to refund the money for an issue I had nothing to do with?

In the future, buyers do not dictate shipping methods. They get the options in the listing.
Not everything qualifies for media mail. Yearbooks, for instance, do not qualify for MM.
Buyers can be reported for requesting something outside the parameters of a listing.

It's not your fault, as in wrongdoing or negligence. But it's your responsibility, as in the buck stops here. It's the seller's obligation to get the item to the buyer intact. I agree, we shouldn't be expected to anticipate that somebody is going to pour oil on the package. You have to refund the buyer ... you pursue your compensation from the carrier, insurance for example.

OP2 years agoThanks for the reply! The buyer wanted it shipped media mail, the cheapest way to ship this item , which I did. How do I know he didn't do the damage , as he did offer to keep it at a much reduced price.
I guess I will have to charge to mail everything I ship Priority Mail from now on to cover my ass .
Thanks Again !

I guess maybe it's my cynical nature, but I always suspect partial refund requests as dishonestly fishing for a discount. I would never acquiesce to such a request ... for me, it's all or nothing. I would inform the buyer he has two choices: (1) return the item for a refund, or (2) STFU. Politely, of course.

Mentor2 years agoAs a seller you're responsible to get the item to the buyer in as described condition. If an item is damaged or lost in shipping as a seller you are ultimately responsible to refund the buyer.
