item arrived damaged
1st time to deal with this issue. Purchased item arrived damaged, likely damaged in shipping(assuming dent caused by inadequate packaging, box intact but flimsy protection inside. or maybe dropped by seller while packaging, but not dented in seller photos) obvious damage prevents part from fitting but I feel that can be addressed, but concerned about the electronics, I am willing to address the damage and try the part for functionality. so do I address this in feedback or contact seller first?

-The path of least resistance is to file a return using the reason Arrived damaged. This allows you to be covered under eBay's MBG and you will get a prepaid return label for the package. You ship the item back and when the Seller gets it they will have 2 days to refund you, failing that you go back to the claim and Ask eBay to step in and they will force the refund. This process also applies to items that are listed as No returns accepted because the reason Arrived damaged bypasses that return setting.
If you try to do anything else there is a good chance it will not work out and you will not be happy and you will have wasted time and money. You do not have to contact the Seller during this process and once you have your Refund you can leave Positive Feedback because eBay's system worked for you to get your money back on a damaged shipment.
You NEVER use eBay's Feedback system to try and get a Seller to do something, they refer to that as Feedback Abuse or Extortion. You use the processes eBay has in place and once the transaction is 100% complete you can leave Feedback.

OP2 years agoThank you, mr_lincoln for the reply and advice.
It did not occur to me to manipulate the seller via the feedback system, I need the part and there is currently not another available. my goal was looking for a way to attempt to try it without losing funds unnecessarily for both the seller and myself while adhering to good practice protocols of the ebay community. I'll have to find another way forward.
thanks again,
cheers
