It seems I made the golden mistake - I canceled a return and now I'm screwed!
I bought an expensive watch that turned out to be counterfeit. I started a return and the seller accepted, and then he left he ebay platform completely. I canceled the return because I didnt think I was supposed to still send it to the address on the label, knowing for sure at that point it was a scam.
I've since learned that the labels he provided are shipping the the next victim buyer... I got in contact with the person that my watch shows on the label and he was a victim too!
Ebays says that I get nothing because I canceled the return. It sounds like I was not supposed to go through with the return, but I was not supposed to click cancel on the return - or that eliminates your right to a dispute.
yes, I made the error - Ive been on ebay since late 90's and bought a ton of crap, but believe it or not I have never dealt with a scammer like this and simply didn't know the golden rule - dont cancel a return because in ebay lingo that means you are canceling your right to dispute the item no matter what happened.
I have a ton of proof of exactly what happened, and ebay surely can see there were lots of others that got the same scam treatment from this seller and then he vanished, but conveniently they can blow me off because I misunderstood the meaning/impact of canceling the return. supervisor just repeats what you tell them and then says there is nothing they can/will do.
Is there anything I can do??

OP11 months agoYup, I've started with the Credit Card company. They said I had to go through ebay, I am hoping they will take my word for it that ebay declined to help, as I don thave any written proof and ebay support said they could not provide anything in writing.

You can ask customer service for assistance via social media - word it as a follow up - nicely restate what they have told you, and then ask if there is anything else you can do so they can help you. You can then screen print the messages.
Post a private message on www.facebook.com/ebay or https://x.com/ebay

Contact your credit card issuer and open a dispute for a counterfeit item. You can explain the return address problem to them - I assume they will want you to hold the item until they hear from eBay.
