Issue with Delivery by USPS
Hi!
I am a relatively novice eBay seller so I am looking for some guidance. I sold an item and shipped it via USPS. The item shipped but was delivered to the wrong post office (USPS error) and was sent back in order to go through the network and be sent to the correct office. After days of checking for updates, there was never an update on the box. It looks like it made it back to Chicago but never made it back out. I opened a case with USPS and was told I would be contacted if there were any updates. About 2 weeks later and I have not received a phone call nor has there been an update on the shipping info. At this point, it looks like it's lost... I've let my buyer know all of this information.
I know the buyer can request a refund after 30 days of the projected delivery date but my issue is - where does that leave me? It seems like I will be out the money AND the product. Is this true? Has anyone had experience with this?
Thanks!

Mentor3 years agoThe buyer can report an item not received WITHIN 30 days past the estimated delivery date (not after 30 days).
Yes, you are responsible for getting the item to the buyer, so you will have to refund. If the package was insured, you can open a claim with USPS (but that is independent of taking care of your buyer...which comes first).
It's very rare that a package is lost (I haven't had one in over 18 years), but if it happens, you are correct - you'll lose money on the deal.
