Is This Buyer a Scammer?
I'm selling an iPhone. Buyer paid for item, and I was charged an international fee (Ukraine). When I got the buyer's info, the address was in the USA. I was then messaged twice by the buyer wanting the IMEI number and serial number - I haven't given them out. The 2nd message had something to do with someone else contacting me with a different shipping address and to ignore them.
This sale smells very fishy and I'm not shipping until I can get some reassurance from eBay. Anyone have any similar experiences?

OP2 years agoThanks for the comment. You obviously have more selling experience than I do. I also talked with an agent at eBay and they were confident the buyer was legit. The agent said it sounds like the buyer had been scammed out of a purchase, and he was warning me not to entertain any other communication, especially from someone who requests I ship to a different address. I also checked on the buyer's ratings and they were all good.

Mentor2 years agoOnly send to the SHIP TO address that ebay gives you when you print the shipping label. Your Ukraine buyer probably has a credit card that uses the local currency so there is a charge for concerting to USD. It sounds like your buyer wants to confirm that the phone has not been reported stolen, so that is why he is asking for the IMEI and serial number. Do not reply to any message that wants you to ship the item to another address is that NOT the one attached to the payment. That is what scammers often do to get free merchandise.
