is there a cut off for when eBay guarantee for money back if not delivered stops applying?
Summary: bert425 ordered an expensive item from a seller who claimed it was shipped without a working tracking number. Concerned about potential issues, bert425 shared frustrations and sought advice about eBay's refund policies. comics-scifi-collectibles and other participants offered guidance on initiating a refund request and involving eBay for resolution. bert425 expressed stress over the situation, noting lack of communication from the seller, while seeking reassurance as eBay reviewed the case. Concerns were heightened due to an upcoming wedding, adding personal stress to the situation.
I've ordered something (expensive) and the seller shows it "shipped without tracking"
repeated requests for updates, have finally (after noting I will have to involve eBay if I don't get a response) got me the following:
"Hello, it has been shipped. It’s a third-party Shipping Company the tracking number will not work until it gets to destination. We called them yesterday and they said it’s still on road and it should be delivered by Friday."
I don't understand how tracking wont work until after it's reached destination, that does not make sense - what is the point of a tracking number then?? :(
so I'm concerned perhaps they are trying to "run out the clock" to make it too late for refund, if I don't complain to eBay within a certain period of time.
I seriously want to give the Seller the benefit of the doubt, and that's why not naming or giving many details. . but needed to ask, as I'm worried about the total $$ spent, if I pass a reporting window without realizing it.
thanks,
Bert

Mentor2 weeks agoCheck your purchase history for the last estimated delivery date for the item. Once this date has passed by at least one full day and not more than 30 days you can open an "Item not received" case. The seller would have three business days to prove with tracking acceptable to eBay that the item was either delivered or is still moving through the shipping carriers system. If they cannot do this then you go back to the case and "Ask eBay to step in" and they will force a refund.

OP2 weeks agothere is no estimated delivery date listed.
only that it supposedly shipped Sept 2, and "Returns accepted thru Sept 28" - which is Next Monday!

Mentor2 weeks agoNote that sellers are not required to supply tracking numbers. So wait until the estimated delivery date passes, then you can open an Item Not Received case if you have not received you item or a refund.

OP2 weeks agothere is no estimated delivery date. . only noted that it shipped untracked 9/2 and that "returns are accepted thru 9/28"
so they are telling me it SHOULD be here by Friday.. . and the 1 business day after, will be that 9/28 if it doesn't arrive.
does that mean they can give ship me nothing, or garbage, and then claim that it's outside the window for refund?
I'm not liking this at all :(

Mentor1 week ago@bert425 Try starting a not received refund request case. The system will not let you continue if it is too soon. Then ask eBay to step in and help after 4 business days if the seller has not refunded you.
If the item arrives and is not as described then you file a return request case>>
The eBay Money Back Guarantee over rules the sellers return policy. You have 30 days from the date of delivery to file a not as described return request for most categories. Trading cards, bullion, coins, paper money, and items that are sold as not working or for parts you only have 3 days from the date of delivery to file a refund request case.

OP1 week agothank you for the response.
I initiated a not received case, and just got a message from the seller telling me that they "can see i've lost patience" and that "once we hand it off to the shipper / third party, it is out of their hands"
I have chosen not to respond to the seller, as at this point, I no longer trust anything from this company.

Mentor1 week ago@bert425 I agree, do NOT respond to this seller. Just ask eBay to step in and help on the 4th business day if they have not refunded you. No reason to talk to this seller any longer.
How to ask us to step in
Find the item in your Purchases.
Select See request details (if your item didn't arrive) or See return details (if you're trying to return an item).
Select Ask eBay to step in and help.
Select a reason from the dropdown menu, then select Confirm.
Go to Purchases

OP1 week agothis has turned into a horror show.
the seller messaged today (the last day before I can involve eBay for refund) claiming they tried to call the phone number I have listed in the eBay account and it is a non working number.
this is true, it's a hard line number that was disconnected over 2 years ago. the correct cell # was given in messages with the Seller twice in our conversations.
despite that they have never reached out with updates, or to follow up.
the Freight company called me just 20 minutes ago, and I told them we are refusing delivery. . I want a full refund from eBay. we are past the 9/18-9/21 delivery promise, as well as past the revised promise of 9/25
the freight company confirmed it did not even arrive in Austin until 9/28. . . so already PAST the promised 9/25.
despite saying I wasn't going to respond, I pulled out all the conversations with this seller and told them I have proof they have not delivered on promises, and we do not trust them any longer.
I now have a feeling that eBay will not protect me here, and insist that I am responsible for the $500 shipping, and if anything, will only refund me the 2200 minus the shipping.
this is making me physically ill. . .I hate dealing with liars :(

Mentor1 week ago@bert425 DO NOT REFUSE DELIVERY. CONTACT THE FREIGHT COMPANY AGAIN AND TELL THEM TO DELIVER.
Did you ask eBay to step in and help as I suggested on the Not Received refund request case?
If it DOES arrive before the case is closed in your favor DO NOT REFUSE DELIVERY. I can NOT stress this enough. Refusing delivery VOIDS the eBay Money Back Guarantee.
You must accept delivery then file a not as described return request case doesn't match pictures or description. The delivery date shown on the listing is part of the description.
Then after 4 business days ask eBay to step in and help if the seller has not provided a return shipping label or a full refund.
