Is it necessary to ship using a freight carrier? Are there options other than USPS, FedEx and UPS?
My item is an old (c. 1870s) sea trunk; 30" H, 35" W, 21" D at 85 lbs. I feel it's likely not applicable to ship using USPS, FedEx or UPS but I'm still reading their shipping limitations and irregular package definitions. This is also my first item sold on eBay so I'm still unfamiliar if it's appropriate the buyer arranges shipping due to the potential the item is bought for an antique collection and therefore, I feel proper shipping and maybe insurance is important.
I assume DHL or an art shipping service would be the type of company to use.
Anyone have experience shipping something like a sea trunk?
Thanks!

I would change it to local pick up only. Then you are not responsible for any shipping. If a buyer not local to you wants to buy it and arrange for a freight company to pick it up, then it becomes their responsibility. I doubt that a buyer would do this, because to have a freight company pick it up, crate it and ship it would be quite expensive.
There is no way to offer shipping but make it the buyer’s responsibility to arrange it.
If you had a crate for it, you could use ups - they will ship up to 150lb, with length + girth of 165â€. Your item is 35+60+42 =137 , but will be bigger when crated.
