Is eBay stuck in the 20th century, where changing an address is impossible?
I placed an order, but the shipping address was incorrect.
I updated the address in my account shortly after, but the change was not applied to the order.
When I tried to contact the seller, the system showed an error and would not allow me to send a message.
So I called customer support, and they simply told me to cancel the order.
What kind of company cannot handle even a basic address change within 2–3 hours after an order is placed?

A common scam is for someone to contact a seller soon after an item has sold to request a change of address. The seller loses both the item and money if the seller makes the change.
Buyers are shown the ‘Ship to’ address during Checkout. THAT is the time to correct any mistakes. It cannot be done after the order is placed and paid for.
You were told the only choice you have: request a cancellation
[You also can put in a ‘Change of address’ request at the post office at your old address.]

Mentor8 months agoI understand your frustration, but this just isn't allowed. Imagine if I could request that the address be changed to mine. I would get your item. This has happened, so that is why the rule is in place. Follow the directions as above. Change your address in all of the places here: https://accountsettings.ebay.com/uas/addresses

The seller gets the order details immediately, so that change of address does not update if you change the address after payment.
You can ask the seller to cancel the order and place it again now that you have the address updated.
As you have found, it is important to keep your address up to date prior to purchasing the item OR you have the choice to change the address as you check out for the item. Once the order is confirmed, those things cannot be changed.
Request to cancel here: How buyers can cancel an order | eBay
It has nothing to do with eBay being out of date, it has to do with the information that is transferred to the seller when placing the order. The seller is told to ship to the address on the payment details.
