Is ebay stealing from me or are they just incompetent?
I ordered an item months ago which never arrived, when i messaged the seller they didn't answer, ebay only every offered me the option to contact the unresponsive seller. 25 days later they close the request with no refund because the seller never answered. EBay has been the definition of useless in resolving this issue. At this point i assume they must be profiting from their colossal stupidity.

You have to file a refund request within 30 days of the last estimated delivery date or the eBay Money Back Guarantee has expired. Once the MBG expires then eBay can no longer be asked to step in and force a refund.
eBay is not making more money but not approving a refund, refunds come from sellers. eBay only makes money on the fees they charge sellers.
Since you said it was months ago your options for a refund now are PayPal, if you paid using PayPal at checkout you have 180 days from the date of purchase.
If you did not use PayPal then contact your bank or credit card to see what protections you have.
