Is a Negative Feedback still allowed to be posted if the buyer lies in the feedback?

·2 years agoNo. Under no circumstances can a seller leave less than a glowing postive (no negative comments are allowed) for a buyer.
The seller can and may leave a response to the feedback left by the buyer, which can be less than positive. Don't do it until you calm down, and then discard the first couple you draft until you get a calm, factual, no name-calling response to leave. You will be judged by future buyers who know what they are doing far more on what you say than on what the buyer says (unless your response shows that the buyer was right).
Go to your own Feedback Profile (on a www.ebay.com page hover your mouse over the "Hi [your firstname]" at top left of the page and click on your Feedback Score in parentheses behind your ID; other links on the www pages don't work so easily and you have to go through other screens clicking and scrolling before you actually get to the real Feedback Profile page; here on the community.ebay.com pages clicking anyone's Feedback Score still works right so you can click on the one in the header of your post). There should be a list of "Purchases awaiting feedback" at the top (if you have any that you can still leave one for) and under the "When" column of the feedback received tabs are links to "Reply" to the feedback you received and on the "Left for others" tab are links to "Follow up" the feedback you left.

OP2 years agoI think the way I worded it was weird, so let me rephrase it. Does a buyer violate any sort of feedback policy when they lie in feedback?

·2 years agoYears ago the rules stated that eBay would remove feedback if ordered by a court in a defamation suit. eBay is not going to investigate to see who is lying.
Did you or did you not cancel the transaction? What reason did you select from the cancellation form? What exactly did you tell the buyer? Did you relist?
While we recommend that someone leaving feedback not speculate on the partner's motives, it is not against any eBay policy I"ve seen.

OP2 years agoSo I was talking with another person who bought multiple cars and paid shipping already. I offered this buyer a car for cheap with free shipping. They said they would add it on, so the easiest thing for me was to just make another listing with the car and free shipping after they messaged. Within 10 - 15 minutes of that buyers listing being ready for them the buyer I've been talking about came along and bought the car separate from the one I made the offer to. I've never had anyone buy a reserved listing before. They always have minimal detail and says Reserved. I know this isn't an eBay policy, and I see them all the time on ebay, and out of respect, i don't buy it knowing its not meant for me.
After they bought it, I messaged them with a very kind and apologetic message, saying that car was meant for someone else who had already paid for shipping. They then asked if the car was still available, and i offered them another one for the same price, but plus shipping rather than free shipping. They agreed, and seemed fine with the whole situation. They requested to cancel the order themselves through eBay, but said eBay told them to contact me. They messaged, asking to cancel it since they couldn't themselves, so I selected "Buyer Requested to cancel". The order was refunded, and then I messaged them with a listing of the car at the same price, but plus shipping like previously discussed. They messaged back with "I'm not sure what you re doing" as if we hadn't had a whole conversation about what I was going to do (I was honestly dumbfounded at this moment). I responded asking what the problem was, what I could do, and mentioned how we had just had a whole discussion about what I was going to do a day ago. They never responded to that message, and almost 2 weeks later, a red pops up. A red in which lies about the whole interaction, phrasing it a way like I made a listing a certain price than canceled for no reason. Or like I didn't cancel in the system because they initiated the request. Or like I didn't have a chain of messages back and forth with them until they stopped replying.
I wouldn't even have as much of a problem with it if they just said it how it was... not literally quoting something I never said. And ebay saying they won't do anything about feedback like this is really annoying. because they can and should. If anything force the buyer to revise rather than delete. They have the messages, and they know who's right. Plus they should not be limiting the amount of characters you can put in replies to negative feedback. It should not only be 500 characters.
