Irresponsible seller ships item to self
Summary: mirgr97 is experiencing an issue with a seller who erroneously shipped an item to California rather than to their location in South Carolina. The seller refuses to refund, claiming eBay should handle it. house*of*paws advises contacting the credit card company for a chargeback and suggests filing a 'return request' with eBay. mirgr97 responds that they filed an item not received complaint and plans to wait until September 17 to have eBay intervene. jacbarcollectibles recommends obtaining a letter from the shipping carrier to prove the item was not delivered to the correct address, which can be used to appeal to eBay.
Hello everyone. I have an issue with a seller who lives in California. I live in South Carolina. The seller shipped the item from California to another town in California not far from his home. Tracking says delivered….to California. Again I live in South Carolina. The seller says too bad. He isn’t refunding. “ ebay will have to cover it” is his response. The automated response from eBay is that it is delivered. I think I am going to have to wait until September 17 before eBay will do anything about it. I just want to make sure that I’m not crazy and that eventually eBay will figure out what happened and refund me. Ultimately, I don’t care if the seller has to pay or if eBay does as long as I get my money back…although I do kind of hope the seller does have to pay since he is being so smug and uncooperative. Any input on this situation will be appreciated. Thank you so much.

What a bummer! 😖
The fastest way to a refund is to phone your credit card company and tell them exactly what happened … that you were the victim of the ‘Fake tracking number scam’ … and request a chargeback of your full payment.
A somewhat slower alternative is to file a ‘return request’ with eBay, saying that the item you received ‘Didn’t match the description or photos’. The seller will be required to either refund you in full OR supply you with a free shipping label to return the item they never shipped to you. [If they send the label … you stick it on an empty envelope or box AND mail it!]
eBay doesn’t have a simple way to report to eBay exactly what the deceptive seller did, which is why I recommended the two options I did.
I’m really sorry this happened. Please post back if you have further questions about this.

OP1 month agoThank you. I filed an item not received complaint ( probably the wrong choice). That is when eBay sent an automated reply about it showing as delivered. I think I can ask eBay to step in and help further…maybe even get to interact with a real person…. On Sept. 17. I’ll wait until then. If that proves unhelpful then I will definitely do a chargeback through my bank. Thanks for your reply.

Mentor1 month agoYou filed the correct case but in this instance there will be two parts to getting your money back. eBay correctly denied the request because the tracking showed the item delivered. Now you need to get a letter (not an email) from the shipping carrier saying the address on the label was not yours along with the weight of the package. Then you use this letter in your appeal to eBay along with mentioning the false tracking number scam. eBay should then rule for you and force a refund and this will put the seller on eBays radar.
