International shipping **bleep** Item Liquidated as not passing inspection

I sold a painting and packed it very safe to go to Hungary. I Sold it for $350 and it was $40 to ship it to the hub. When it failed inspection I was charged back the sale price the shipping and an additional $90 in VAT. No proof of any damage or option to have the painting returned. I hear these items are sold to 3rd party buyers who resell them This seems like a huge scam and I am wondering if there is any thing I can do and how can they charge a VAT tax to me when the item never left the country. This is egregious and I have lost even more trust in Ebay.

@hurricanesrule eBay should have refunded the buyer out of their pocket per the eBay International Shipping Program policy once the item reaches the Hub your job as a seller is done. A seller should never have to refund VAT since they never receive it.

You are supposed to keep the $ from the sale. If that is not what happened then you need to reach out to customer service.

Use this method to get past the chat bot since it does affect your bottom line payout amount>>

Then Type PAYOUT in the chat bot box on the lower right. (Do not add any additional information)

Then AGENT after the bot responds. You might have to repeat those steps.
