International Buyer picked wrong shipping
Hi all,
my buyer accidentally picked $200 shipping for a $40 item. I can’t just refund because the taxes and eBay fees are calculated on the whole amount they paid. What is the correct process here? Do they need to ask for something from me officially? Thanks!

When you send a refund, your fees on the refund amount are credited to you and eBay reimburses the buyer for the sales tax paid on the refunded amount, so no problem there.
However, is this question in regard to the card that sold for $38.22 today? I don't see an option on the listing for a shipping option that costs $200.

I missed the part where you wrote that he is an international buyer. I see it now. The UPS option you selected to add on your listing is wildly expensive. There is also a Priority option, and that's the one the buyer missed.
If you are going to list more than one shipping option,it's a good idea to make the least expensive one (or the one you prefer) the first one that is displayed.

OP8 months agofair enough. i assumed ebay automatically did that .. ha! So what should i do? Ship it and then refund the difference? I think he also filed a claim to ask ebay what to do. Should i wait for that to be resolved?

There is no claim to file to ask eBay what to do. eBay has two types of claims, returns or items that aren't received by the estimated delivery date.
Does your buyer want the item? If so, refund his over-payment. If he no longer wants the item, you can cancel the order using the reason that the buyer requested the cancellation. Both of those options are available in the dropdown next to the order transaction. (Click the three dots to see them.)
Hope that helps!
