Insurance Claim + Return Request Date Confliction

I sold a computer that was damaged during USPS shipping. The shipment was insured through ShipCover for the full amount. I filed a ShipCover insurance claim on August 11, 2026, and the claim is currently pending. The buyer has now opened an eBay return request, and eBay is requiring me to resolve the return by August 14. The ShipCover claim instructions say the buyer needs to retain the damaged item and packaging until the claim is resolved, which may take until August 30. I need guidance on how to handle the eBay return while the ShipCover claim is pending. I don't want the buyer to ship the computer back or dispose of the packaging while the insurance claim is being investigated. What should I do before the August 14 deadline?

To issue a full refund
Go to your Returns dashboard.
Select View return details beside the item.
Select Give a full refund and then Continue.
On the next page you'll see the refund amount. Select Refund the buyer.
Hopefully the buyer is co-operative with your insurance claim as Shipcover may ask them for photos of the box, the packing material and the item. You should be able to get those from the buyer and submit the photos in your claim. At least that is how it works with USPS. I have never filed a Shipcover claim.
I would message the buyer and let them know that you don't want them to wait for the insurance claim to settled so are issuing the refund now. Ask them to please co-operate and provide the information that shipcover requires.
