Instead of signing for delivery, Buyer wants item dropped over his fence. How do I protect myself ?
If USPS says it delivered the item (a $200 pair of shoes) but Buyer claims it never arrived, am I protected since the lack of signature is on him?

Signature confirmation is only required on items $750 or more. Less than $750, you only need to carrier’s ‘delivered’ scan. If the buyer opens a not received claim, go to the claim and enter the tracking that shows delivered, and the case should close in your favor.
You can suggest that he goes to his PO with the tracking # and ask the clerk to look up the delivery. The scanners have gps, so they can see exactly where the package was delivered. If mis-delivered, the carrier should try to retrieve the package.
If correctly delivered and stolen from the buyer's property, it is up to the buyer to file a police report and a home insurance claim, if applicable.
Buyers don’t like signature required, since they might not be home and would have to deal with redelivery or going to the PO, so don’t use it when not required.
Dropping something over a fence is an issue he needs to address with his local PO. They are going to want to put packages in his mailbox or on his doorstep, but he can try requesting special handling.
