It is clear eBay has insiders who channel auctions so that the favored bidders win. Today I bid $15.10 on a coin that sold for $10.50. When I bid $15.10 my bid did not register. Instead, I was given a menu of 3 alternative bids, all lower than what I had just bid. I chose $10 but when bidding ended a couple seconds later I was told the winning bid was $10.50, far below what I had previously bid. This has happened to me before. In all cases the sellers were the real ones who got screwed.

Mentor3 years agoOthers have noticed problems when submitting a bid at the end of an auction on the listing page where an amount entered in the bidding field can be erased when the page is updated as a new bid is registered, making it difficult to actually submit a bid.
You may be able to avoid this situation by using the bid button without first entering a bid amount. Then, when the bid pop-up appears with the three preset amount buttons, enter your bid amount there and bid from the pop-up. The field on the pop-up apparently does not suffer from the same bid-amount-clearing bug.
Neither eBay nor sellers benefit when bidders have problems entering bid amounts or are prevented from entering valid bids.
