Inform Consumers Act message. Is this real?
I have received a message in the eBay messages about something called the Inform Consumers Act which is requesting very confidential information. Is this real?

OP3 weeks agoHow do I tell where it came from? It is in my eBay messages, not in an email. There is no return address that I can find?

OP3 weeks agoI guess it's real. It did require my password to see the message, but then it did NOT ask for any new information, just ask me to confirm what it already had. The Social Security was only the last couple digits, as was the bank account number.

OP3 weeks agoI do note that the link about the ICA that was sent to me here is identical to the one in the message, so that would confirm at least that the ICA does exist.

Mentor3 weeks agoIf the message is in your eBay messages and it is from eBay, you will see the message under "From eBay" rather than under "From members" using the options on the left side of the message inbox page.
Scammers have been known to copy real email messages from eBay and substitute their own links in the email, so be careful when following links in emails even if the message appears to be authentic. You may be redirected to another site and prompted for your credentials by the scammers.
It does sound like this particular message was from eBay, though.

First, check to make sure the message is actually from eBay. Ignore it if it claims to be from eBay but it is not, or if it comes from a user account rather than from eBay itself.
Never follow any blind links from a message or email you do not trust.
Some info about the ICA directly from eBay:
