Incorrect tracking number given
I was given an incorrect tracking number by the seller for a package who then asked me not to submit a report and told me it was in transit (1/29/26). I have not received the package and eBay has closed the case because the package (not my package) was delivered. eBay told me to go look around the neighborhood. Paypal will also not pursue for the same reason. The seller does not answer my messages. I feel that a human being is not reading the information I'm submitting or they would see that the seller admitted a mistake. I'm at a point where I am frustrated and need a real live person to talk to!

OP6 months agoI just filed a complaint with the Ohio attorney general and will try to dispute the charge on the card. Thanks again!

OP5 months agoToday I received an email from the Ohio Attorney General's office including a letter from ebay stating that my money would be refunded. Don't give up! Fraud is fraud and sellers should be held accountable. My seller in the transaction has been terminated and account closed. I saw that before I received the notice of refund. It has been an almost 2 month process, but justice prevailed.

I'm sorry that happened.
Did you file a chargeback with PayPal already? If not, *don't* do that just yet.
1) First, call the post office/shipper to see if the tracking number label contained your name and your address.
a) If your name and correct address were on the label, ask USPS/shipper to review the GPS on the delivery, retrieve the item from the wrong house, and deliver it to you.
b) If your name and address weren't on that label, ask the Post Office/shipper if they will put this in writing; it's helpful, but not required. (They won't tell you whose name *is* on the package, only that your name and address *is not*.) Also, ask for the weight of the package using that tracking number. Follow the rest of the steps starting with 2 below:
FOR UPS:
You can usually find the weight and other details for UPS here:
https://www.ups.com/track?loc=en_US&requester=ST/
then click " Proof of Delivery"
The proof of delivery may have more details about the delivery site, and the weight. Screenshot that.
FOR FEDEX
You can usually find the weight and other details for FedEx here:
https://www.fedex.com/en-us/tracking.html
Then click 'View More Details' to see the package weight. Screenshot that.
2) Then, report the seller using this process
https://www.ebay.com/help/action?topicid=4022
Important, select "Suspicious seller activity"
then "Other"
Explain that the seller is using fake tracking numbers
Include these phrases
Don't write a novel, it's initially being read by a computer, that's why I want you to use those 3 specific phrases in the message.
3) Finally, contact Customer Service and inform them that the seller uploaded a "false tracking number" on your purchase. Share any documentation you gathered. Request a refund.
Use the Customer Service that is on social media this way:
Just sent a private message to the page. Explain you have a fake or false tracking number situation.
Let me know how this goes, I've been burned a few times myself (including on Amazon), but I have been able to get a refund following this process.
There are additional steps to take if the above isn't effective, just come back and update me.
If you already filed a chargeback with Paypal, you should use the above information to file an appeal with them,

OP6 months agoGreat information! I have contacted Paypal and within a few hours they denied. I will go to Fedex first. I have seen some of the info you mentioned. I was trying to get a picture, but that proved impossible at this point. Thank you!
