Inaccurate shipping charge
Why is the shipping cost that's charged to the buyer so inaccurate? Sometimes it's more, but more often it's less than what's determined at the post office, and I have to pay the difference. Example: A buyer was charged 5.98, but it cost me 10.50 to ship at the post office. On a 10$ sale, I only ended up with ca. $5. In the post, I even added 1 lb to the weight, and rounded up the measurements to the nearest inch, just to be safe! If I add any more "safety" weight to my posts, it will discourage buyers.

You are charging your buyers the eBay discounted rate. If you are paying for your postage at the PO, you are paying retail. You either need to charge your buyers retail, or buy your labels through eBay.
You also need to make sure you are using the same service as in your listing. $5.98 is ground advantage, $10.50 sounds like priority. Part of it could also have been the price change last weekend, if the item was sold on the 18th.

OP1 year agoThank you. I didn't know there was a discount vs. a retail shipping rate. I will look into it to make sure I'm charging the latter. I always select the cheapest shipping option listed on the Ebay shipping list. At the post office, I'm always offered several options on shipping, and again I ask for the cheapest (unless it's an expensive item that requires insurance). So maybe the discrepancy is, indeed, due to discount vs. retail.

Mentor1 year ago@harrybart Are you selecting buyer pays> calculated shipping on your listings? AND entering the package weight and dimensions on the listings?
Are you buying your shipping labels from eBay or the post office? Shipping cost more at the post office than from eBay.
If you don't have a printer you can use the QR code and the post office prints the label.

OP1 year agoYes, always "buyer pays" and I enter the weight and package size, rounding up to the nearest inch, and adding an extra 1 lb. I will look into using ebay labels.
