Impossible to give a negative rating on a 'buyer'?
I got a 'best offer' good for 48 hours on an auctioned item, which I accepted. The buyer proceeded to ask me to contact him via SMS (ouside of ebay), and attempted to arrange a shady deal using gift cards vs cash, my shipping the item --clearly listed as local pickup only-- to his 'sick daughter in Virginia', etc. I blasted him via SMS as a scammer, cancelled the 'transaction', and promised that I'd give him a negative rating.
But it appears that's impossible! The instructions on how to leave a rating say, 'first select positive, then add a comment...'. There is no way to select negative, and I don't even see a way to save a rating as 'neutral'. This scoundrel will undoubtedly continue his preying. Am I missing something?

Mentor2 years agoSellers are not allowed to leave negative feedback ratings or comments for buyers. If the experience wasn't positive, leave no feedback at all and instead use the tools eBay gives you to handle it.
Go back to the eBay message you received from this "buyer" and select the report option from the Actions dropdown list to get him on record with eBay.
If a buyer hasn't paid by day five, select the cancellation option in the dropdown next to the order using the reason that the buyer hasn't paid. The buyer will earn an unpaid item strike on his account. Two or more and his ability to buy will be limited or even ended. I hope this was the process you followed. If you used another cancellation option, nothing will happen to the buyer, but you may have given yourself a defect on your record if you selected the reason that you were out of stock.

Scroll down that page and turn on the option to auto-block buyers with 2 or more unpaid items within 12 months. That will help to protect you from repeat offenders.

·2 years agoWhen you cancelled the sale, it also gives the fake buyer a Strike. All sellers can set up a retriction to block bidders/buyers with 2 or more Strikes in the last 12 months.
You can also put this failed buyer on your account's Blocked Bidder List to prevent them from bidding or buying on any of your listings.
