Import Fees - Do I get notification/make payment through eBay?
Hello Everyone,
Can someone with experience please school me on how import fees work with regards to a) how a buyer is notified of them and b) how payment of these is made?
I ask because I am hoping the process is carried out entirely under the auspices of eBay (i.e. that everything can be taken care of through my eBay account).
Is this the case? Or does eBay pass on my email address to the shipping firm (e.g. the USPS) and I would need to monitor my inbox closely to make sure I don't miss any messages from them?

It is not handled through eBay.
If an item is being delivered usps, they will leave a notice in your mailbox - a notice of fees due. You then have to go to your PO to pay the fees and collect your package.
If sent ups or fedex, they would most likely send you an email, and you would see some notice on the tracking inquiry. UPS and fedex have online payment functions, so you can pay the fees, then they will deliver your package.

OP8 months agoIt is a pity eBay does not deem it important enough to streamline the process by working with the USPS as they do with PayPal in order to make it possible to pay fees with a couple of clicks. I am afraid a time-sucking trip to the local post office is the last thing I need, having long ago learned there is a reason post offices no longer have clocks within public view.
In any event, thank you for the reply. I am grateful to you for mapping out the process and making it plain to me that this isn't something I want to mess about with. [wave]
