I'm wondering if there is any protection for the seller. I'm hesitant to ship my item because the bu
Buyer can say they didn't get the item or it's damaged. Then I lose my item a d don't get paid . Is there any kind of taking half the money off hold

Buyers are protected by the eBay Money Back Guarantee, you should read that so you know what could happen: eBay Money Back Guarantee policy
You are a new Seller who sold a high value item as your first sale. You have to ship it. Your funds will be on hold for 30 days as a new Seller: Payments on hold | eBay
Print the shipping label through eBay for a discount and tracking is automatically uploaded to the sold item for your protection against a claim by the Buyer that they did not receive their item. If you purchase a non-discounted label at the carrier's then you have to take the receipt back home and manually type in the tracking number, again for your projection.
When asked we advise new Sellers to sell lower priced items to gain experience before trying to sell higher value items.
If a return is forced on you and depending on what happens some Seller protections may apply: Seller protections | eBay
If you cancel the transaction you will get a strike on your account which is NOT good on your very first sale.

If you use ebay shipping, in addition to getting a discounted rate, the tracking number is automatically uploaded. If the buyer states the item came damaged, ebay will ask for photos. You will refund the buyer and then file an insurance claim with the carrier, uploading the photos the buyer provided.
